Proposed Law Would Require Automakers and Auto-dealers to Publish In-Vehicle Magnetic-Field Levels

Israeli Parliament (Knesset)

The Israeli Parliament (Knesset) is advancing a legislative initiative that would significantly expand consumer transparency in the fast-growing electric vehicle market. A proposed bill seeks to require that all new electric and hybrid vehicles sold in Israel publicly disclose electromagnetic (magnetic field) radiation levels measured inside the passenger cabin during vehicle operation.

The proposal, titled Electric Vehicle Electromagnetic Radiation Disclosure in Advertising Bill – 2025, mandates the creation of an official classification system for vehicles based on their maximum measured electromagnetic radiation exposure. Under the bill, the Minister of Health, together with the Ministers of Transport and Environmental Protection, would establish a multi-level rating scale, and manufacturers and importers would be required to display this rating prominently in all advertisements and at points of sale. The intent is to give consumers clear, standardized information, similar to existing labels for air pollution or energy efficiency.

The legislative push follows an extensive discussion held in the Knesset Economic Affairs Committee in January 2026, where members of parliament, government ministries, health experts, and industry representatives debated electromagnetic radiation exposure in electric and hybrid vehicles. During the session, officials confirmed that magnetic fields do exist inside all vehicles, electric, hybrid, and conventional, but acknowledged the absence of binding regulations or a uniform disclosure requirement. Several experts emphasized the precautionary principle, particularly regarding long-term exposure of children, and argued that transparency alone could incentivize manufacturers to reduce radiation levels through better design.

Supporters of the bill stress that the law does not ban vehicles or claim proven harm, but rather ensures informed consumer choice. By aligning Israel with emerging international practices (such as radiation rating systems already introduced in China), the proposed law aims to position Israel as a leader in consumer protection and public health transparency in the era of electrified transportation.
